As of this week, we are expanding/ changing the chime so that it is now mid- week announcements for the entire ward (not a RS only communication). Jamie Wells is now the ward Calendar Coordinator and responsible to publish the mid-week announcements. To the extent possible I would like all the information to be included in the text of that email. Also I want to make sure the information is only listed once and as concisely as possible.

Pioneer Day is on July 24th 2010

It is the anniversary of the day when the first Mormon Pioneers
entered the Great Salt Lake Valley.
Members of the Church were persecuted for their beliefs and mobs
chased them from town to town and state to state until in 1847
the prophet Brigham Young led the people on a great exodus to
the West.
Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley said:
"Let us remember with gratitude and reverent respect those who have
gone before us, who paid so dear a price in laying the foundation for that
which we enjoy this day."
There is a live concert @ 7:30 Mt Standard

SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO HONOR THEM?

1. Pull our families together and read Family Histories.
2. Prepare a family name to take to the Temple.-

3. Write your own personal History....

Happy Birthday, Relief Society!
Join us March 11th to celebrate the birthday of the Relief Society organization.
We will be gathering at the Sparks' home (825 S. Stellar Parkway) from 6:30-8:00pm for a special program to honor the organizers of the Relief Society.

Dinner will be from 6:30-7:00pm with a presentation beginning at 7:00pm. Please be sure to invite the sisters you Visit Teach! It will be an uplifting evening!

No childcare will be provided.

If you went on the Trek a couple of years ago and have pioneer clothing, please contact Kathy Gallagher. We are in need of costumes!

Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it's on a hike we go...
We will be hiking Squaw Peak on
January 9th

Meet at the church at 7am
Husbands and kids are welcome
(however, if children decide to turn around they will need to be accompanied by a parent- parents are responsible for children's saftey on the hike).

There are flush toilets and picnic ramadas (first come, first served on the ramadas- but there are many).
The hike can take anywhere from 1-2.5 hours, depending on the individual. This will make it difficult to stay together as an entire group, but we need to stay in small groups so no one is left alone.

Individuals will be responsible to bring the following for themselves and their families:
water
comfortable shoes (not brand new hiking boots- this is not the time to break them in)
sunscreen
snacks
hat
sunglasses
simple first aid kit
trekking poles (for those with knee problems, these may prove very helpful)

This month's Relief Society activity is one you will definitely not want to miss. We will be having a progressive dinner that will make Santa (and the Priesthood) jealous.
We'll get our appetites going with appetizers at Zanette Jacobson's, have the main course at Kathy Gallagher's, and satisfy our sweet teeth with dessert AND a cookie exchange at Chris Ortega's. Along the way we will be spiritually fed as well with a Gospel thought at each stop.

If you would like to participate in the cookie exchange, all you need to do is bake, buy, or coerce your visiting teachers into making one dozen cookies to swap.

Please join us...the more the merrier!

Rag Bags:

Materials Needed: 1 yard of each of the following…
Main Outer Fabric: Cotton works best. My suggestion is to use 4 different fabric designs. In this case, you would need ¼ yard of each. You could also do 2 different fabrics and use ½ yard of each.
Middle Fabric: I use plain flannel, but you could also use batting. Flannel will give your bag more color.
Inside Fabric: I like to use a simple solid color, but you may use whatever works best for you.

Preparation: Due to the lack of time, if you have the materials and are able, it is suggested that you cut and prepare the fabric prior to Enrichment. This will leave you plenty of time to sew the bag together. This bag has three layers, sewn in individual squares that are then sewn together to create your bag.
Cutting instructions for Main Outer Fabric:
1.) Cut out eight 8” squares (8”x8”). If you have 4 different designs, you will need to cut two 8” squares from each design. If you choose to do 2 designs, you will have four 8” squares from each.
2.) Cut out six 8”x6” rectangles. If you have 4 different designs, you will need to cut two 8”x6” pieces from 3 of your designs. If you choose to do 2 designs, you will have three 8”x6” pieces from each.
3.) From your remaining fabric, you will need to cut two 8”x12” pieces for your inside pockets.
4.) From your remaining fabric you will also need to cut a 3” piece, 27”-30” long. This is for the strap. I like to split this up with the remaining fabric pieces I have left. See strap in picture.
Cutting instructions for Middle Fabric/Batting:
1.) Cut out eight 8” squares (8”x8”). If using batting, make your
squares 6”.
2.) Cut out six 8”x6” rectangles. If you’re using batting, make the rectangles 6”x4”.
3.) Cut your 3” strap piece exactly how you cut the main fabric.
Cutting instructions for Inside Fabric:
1.) Cut out eight 8” squares (8”x8”).
2.) Cut out six 8”x6” rectangles.
3.) Cut your 3” strap piece exactly how you cut the main and middle fabric.

SUPER SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 12TH
Scroll down to the last post and learn all the details of this fun annual event. If you did not sign up for a craft please join us for lunch. Remember Diane Hammond will be sharing some thoughts with us that will prepare us for the January activity.

Super Saturday is coming September 12, 2009

Please come and have a wonderful morning crafting, sharing, visiting with sisters in the ward, their friends and family. Super Saturday is always so much fun and we really hope that you will come and be a part of it. Our Enrichment Committee have worked hard to create amazing projects. There is a little something for everyone.

The agenda: Start at 9:00 am.
Lunch at 11:30 am.

The Stake assigned our ward September 10th for our Quarterly Enrichment Meeting this year. In consideration of your time we have combined Super Saturday and our Quarterly Meeting and have invited Diane Hammond to speak for a few minutes during lunch. Her message will prepare us for the January Activity. Following her brief remarks we can continue visiting.

If for some reason you are not able to participate in the crafting please come for lunch anyway.
